Our History
Afghanistan Independent Rehabilitation Organization – AIRO grew out of a vision of ending poverty and social injustice in Afghanistan, and it has been working in Afghanistan for over 15 years. AIRO registered in Afghanistan in 2003, by well professional and social Afghan volunteer’s team and on vision to support through this organization the vulnerable and marginalized people in Afghanistan. The initial programs at beginning was, included Humanitarian assistance to Returnees, IDP’s poor and vulnerable support, advocacy and other emergency response projects in all five region zone of Afghanistan.
AIRO has made a considerable shift in its programming approach over the years. From direct service provision to enabling poor and vulnerable communities in Afghanistan, Our focus is explicitly on the well-being, social position and rights of women and girls from poor communities.
AIRO is currently looking for Programs approaches stems from a redrawn vision, under which, working with partners on projects has been overlapped with holistic, long term, deep impact programs that work directly with key populations to ensure that the root causes of poverty and marginalization of people, particularly poor men women, IDP’s, Returnees and host communities, are tackled strategically and collaboratively. Recognizing that AIRO continues its transition seeking more appropriate paradigms of development to ensure that we remain a catalyst for change and contribute towards seeking an Afghanistan of hope, tolerance and social justice, political, cultural, and economic where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security.)
